Quick-Answer: Do Aquatic Turtles Shed?

Yes, actually they do. As Aquatic Turtle’s grow it is normal and quite common for them to shed scutes (the outer layers of sections of the shell) as the shell grows and the turtle gets larger. Many time’s you can see these scutes separating from the shell and ultimately flaking off into the water.  Shedding of the skin is also common as the turtle grows, these older outer layers of skin can be discharged as smaller particles or in larger pieces that can sometimes be seen hanging onto the turtle until eventually loosened. Nothing to worry about, it’s all a normal growth process.
